“Animal Crossing,” A Great New Way to Wait Out the Pandemic

“Animal Crossing New Horizons” is the fifth Animal Crossing game in the mainstream series that is currently playable on the Nintendo Switch, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The game’s premise is fairly simple and relaxing, you go outside, talk to your neighbors, catch bugs, go fishing, while also improving your house and the land around you. This franchise is beloved by many and is a great way to relax and take a break from real-world events. Although the game has just come out today and I have only played it for a couple of hours, I can say that I can easily see myself sinking over a hundred hours into my small island.

Unlike other games, “New Horizons” starts you off on an island, where you only have a tent and you must upgrade your tools and island by catching various animals and collecting resources from trees. I came into this game very skeptical, mostly because this was the first game I have played in the series and I thought its formula would get boring and repetitive, but I can assure you it does not. With the rise of the coronavirus, it is the only thing people are talking about, and Animal Crossing released at a perfect time to remind people that we have to all to remain calm and do what we can to stop it, and in the meantime, we can get lost in our small island.
