OP Swimming Takes on Union County

OP Swimming Takes on Union County

On Sunday, January 27th, OP Swimming traveled to the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center at Rutgers to compete in the Union County Swimming Championships. Fourteen teams from around the county competed in a timed finals meet that saw perennial state powerhouse Westfield rise to the top. Oratory Swimming finished at a respectable 7th place garnering 117 points, just behind Cranford in sixth and New Prov in fifth. Despite being low on swimmers, OP swim pushed ahead and saw many best times and great swims.

OP swimmers set a lot of best times over the course of the meet and placed well overall. All three relay teams, the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay, and the 400 freestyle relay, all came in 6th overall and the first two set season bests. In the 100 freestyle, Senior Kyle Roethlin, and Junior Samuel Ilagan all came in the top 16, with Ilagan coming in 10th. Junior Pat Herrighty had his best day of the season, setting a 3 second-best time in the 100 breast and placing 13th in the 200 IM. Freshman Dylan Zwally had an impressive day, finishing 8th in the 100 backstroke and 9th in the 500 freestyle earning 20 points for the team, the most out of any Ram. Also in the 500 freestyle, Junior Patrick Tarka finished 13th and Junior Botond Rice placed 16th.

Next up, OP Swim competes in the NJISAA Prep Championships on Tuesday, February 4th. Stay tuned for updates on the results of that meet, as well as State tournament placing and a final meet against New Prov!
