Playoff Baseball Perdictions

Will DeMilt, Staff Writer

As playoff baseball is now in full swing, the stronger teams of each league remain while the weaker ones have been eliminated. In the American League, the red-hot Red Sox and consistent Houston Astros remain while the dark horse Brewers and explosive Dodgers remain in the National League.

The Boston Red Sox have been hot all year with all-stars Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez leading the offense while all-star Chris Sale has remained a staple in the staff. The Sox are currently facing off against a young but very, very strong Houston Astros team. This team is loaded with raw talent starting with Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Carlos Correa, and George Springer. Although this team’s offense poses a threat to early major league pitching staff, it is their own staff that has allowed them to become an elite baseball team. The staff is headed by flame-thrower Gerrit Cole followed by Dallas Keuchel and Lance McCullers Jr.  A matchup of the season, the series is tied at one game apiece. Personally, I am a Red Sox fan as is everyone in my house but I do believe Houston’s deep pitching staff is going to cause issues for the Red Sox later on in the series. The depth of the Astros staff will allow them to keep Boston’s offense limited to only a few if any runs a game.

On the other hand, the two teams remaining in the National League are the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Milwaukee Brewers are lead by my favorite player, Christian Yelich who has been on an absolute tear this whole season.  Almost a triple crown winner, Yelich remains in constant conversation for being the potential NL MVP. The pitching staff is lead by Josh Hader, a filthy left-handed relief pitcher who boasts of a 2.43 era this season. The Dodgers, on the other hand, are lead by Cody Bellinger, Justin Turner and recent pick-up Manny Machado who all have juiced bats and can swing it very well no matter the pitcher. The explosive offense is complemented by a very polished pitching staff lead by left-handed starting pitcher, Clayton Kershaw. Although Kershaw isn’t known to be exceptionally good in the postseason it will be exciting to see what he brings to the table in the late games of the series.  Although the Brewers are up in this series after winning game three, I believe the Los Angeles Dodgers will somehow go on an offensive tear and manage to win the series.

When the World Series comes around, I expect the two teams playing to be the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros. The strong pitching staff of the Astros versus the explosive lineup of the Dodgers. I see the Astros winning the whole thing in five games, dominating the games solely because of pitching.
