Costello Helps Rams Rally Past Dayton for First Win of the Season

Costello Helps Rams Rally Past Dayton for First Win of the Season

The Rams just finished up their toughest stretch of the season by playing NJ.com’s NO.5 team Governor Livingston, NO.15 Westfield, just outside of the top 20 Montville, and division leader Elizabeth. During this stretch the Rams went 0-4, but played tough in all 4 games. After their 7-5 loss against a very strong Westfield team, the boys knew that they were capable of playing against top 20 opponents. Just one day after this loss the Rams were up against the favorites to win the Mountain Division, Jonathan Dayton. On the bump for the Rams was two year senior captain and Elizabethtown commit, Robbie Costello, who went onto have a huge day for Oratory.

The Rams settled into the game on a nice note. As the umpire had a very tight zone, Costello adjusted to work out of trouble in the first inning. In the second inning, after working out of trouble once again, Costello would deliver with a 2rbi double to put the boys in front. Dayton would later respond in the top half of the 3rd with two of their own to tie the game. Right after working out of a base loaded jam, the Rams would say something right back with a Kevin Parker single to drive in Caden Breault to take the lead. Costello was relieved by junior Ryan Santoriello who worked out of a bases loaded jam to maintain the Rams lead. The umpire did have an affect on this game as his tight zone caused the Rams to walk a lot of people, equating to more pitches being thrown. Dayton would go onto to tie the game at three a piece in the 5th, making the Rams want to do more damage. Jalen Brogdon would help the Rams grab back the lead with a sacrifice to 2nd base scoring George Fagan. MJ Cohen was dominate per usual in the 6th to set up the Rams for more offensive success in the bottom half. Robbie Costello would cap off his four hit day with his first career home run at Cavelero Field. Oratory would score 8 more runs in that inning to go onto win 13-3 for their first win of the season. The Rams look to continue to build upon this momentum when they travel to Kenilworth to play Brearley on Friday.
