As of Monday afternoon, former New Jersey Nets superstar and head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, Jason Kidd, has been let go.  Kidd had led the Bucks to the playoffs two out of the last three years of his occupation as head coach.  They are currently 23-22 and eighth in the eastern conference.  Assistant coach Joe Prunty will serve as the interim head coach for presumably the rest of the season.  After a question about what letting Kidd go will bring to the team, general manager Jon Horst said, “We believe that a fresh approach and a change in leadership are needed to continue elevating our talented team towards the next level, bringing us closer to our goal of competing for championships.”

All-Star Bucks player Giannis Antetokounmpo verbally vouched for Jason Kidd.  When speaking about Giannis, Kidd said “He called me and said, ‘Coach, this isn’t right what they’re about to do, but (they) are gonna let you go.  What can I do? I’ll call the owners, I’ll call my agent.’”  Kidd later stated that he didn’t want Giannis to call ownership and to focus on his own game and the success of the team.

This decision by Bucks management has been argued over the sports world throughout Monday and has surprised many.  Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle commented on the situation saying, “Very surprising. Very unexpected. I don’t know what to say.”  Many analysts have discussed why Kidd was fired, and it’s been concluded that the team can most definitely improve after underperforming under his leadership.  However, since the team is very young, it’s hard to capture all their potential.  With history and relationships with Jason Kidd, the player chemistry and play could take a massive hit in the coming days.

The Milwaukee Bucks are a surprisingly talented team that is on the brink of major success in the near future.  With Kidd out of the picture, the teams future is wide open and the fanbase is very hopeful for a blow-up sooner rather than later.
