Star Wars: Episode VIII (December 15th, 2017)

The follow-up to the third highest-grossing movie of all-time is by far the most anticipated movie of 2017. Episode VII director JJ Abrams has left the director’s chair with the brilliant director of Brick and Looper, Rian Johnson, coming in to fill his shoes and also to write the script for the 8th installment of the most popular franchise in history. Episode VII breakouts Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and BB-8 among the other fan favorites of the franchise like Chewbacca and Mark Hamill are returning to the galaxy, far, far away and the movie has added Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro (Traffic, The Usual Suspects) in an unknown role

Alien: Covenant (May 19th)

The 6th installment in the Alien franchise and the second film in director Ridley Scott’s (Alien, Gladiator) prequel trilogy to the first Alien film, following 2012’s Prometheus is highly anticipated by fans because of what is said to be a return to the horror-elements of the first movie. The story follows a ship, which carries the titular name Covenant, which is carrying couples to colonize a distant planet, when all hell breaks loose on the journey there. Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Danny McBride (This is the End), and a returning Michael Fassbender (X:Men, 12 Years a Slave) lead an outstanding cast to what will hopefully be 2017’s scariest film.

Logan (March 3rd)

Logan is the third standalone Wolverine film and marks Hugh Jackman’s 8th and final time playing the character that he had made iconic on the screen. Logan takes place in a future where mutants are close to extinction and follows an old, brutalized Wolverine who is going on a cross-country road-trip with a young girl who has Wolverine-type powers and Patrick Stewart returning as a decrepit, bed-ridden Professor X. This film debuted the best trailer of 2016 by-far and is finally giving moviegoers an R-rated Wolverine film.

Kong: Skull Island (March 10th)

Kong: Skull Island is the a Vietnam-era King Kong film that is completely different from all previous incarnations of the character and is not another play on the famous “Beauty and the Beast” storyline. The movie has an all-star cast with Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Straight Outta Compton’s Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell, and John C. Reilly among many others. This film looks like Apocalypse Now with a giant gorilla and is another step forward in the lead up to 2020’s King Kong vs Godzilla.
