5 Shows You Should Binge Right Now

5 Shows You Should Binge Right Now

Joseph Bozzella, Staff Writer

1.)The Americans

The Americans has been one of the most critically-acclaimed shows since the moment that it premiered on FX and following its outstanding season 4. Keri Russell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Matthew Rhys star as two Soviet agents that are living as a married couple in the US during the Cold War. The series shines with stellar action scenes, but the show mainly relies on building tension and creating compelling storylines for each season. The show also has fully-fleshed out characters that are multi-layered and are easy to be drawn towards. The Americans is a show that you absolutely need to binge now.

2.)Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is a show that I’m sure that you have heard of recently and you need to watch this show in order to experience why Thrones is the most-talked about show in the world right now and has won the most Emmys ever for a primetime drama. Thrones follows a vast array of characters in the fictional world of Westeros and is a fantasy-genre show that completely subverts all traditional tropes of the fantasy genre. The acting is always on point, with the real standouts being Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey, the production design transports you into this world and the writing rarely misses a step. Game of Thrones is an extremely easy show to binge and it is one of the most rewarding binges that you will ever do.

3.)Orphan Black

Orphan Black is the story of a group of clones who have started to realize that they are clones of each other who have been separated across the globe. This show is an extremely easy binge and the storylines are brisk and easy to follow. The true star of this show is Tatiana Maslany, who has played more than a dozen distinctly different characters over the course of the show as she plays all of the clones. Orphan Black is just a fun show that never feels repetitive and makes you care deeply about the characters.

4.)Black Mirror

Black Mirror has been described as a modern-day version of the legendary show The Twilight Zone and while this is a more than adequate comparison, Black Mirror completely stands alone as a brilliant exploration of the negative effects that humanity’s overuse of technology has on the species. Black Mirror is an anthology based show and is currently comprised of 13 episodes, with 6 more set to come in fall 2017. Each episode is distinctly different with “San Junipero” being a love story but “Be Right Back” is an absolutely devastating emotional journey of how grief can take over a person. Each episode in Black Mirror brilliantly plays on a different emotion and while some are psychedelic horror episodes, other ones are extraordinary tales of a person’s life.

5.)Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley is a brilliant comedy about a group of friends who are trying to start a Fortune 500 tech company out of their shared home in Silicon Valley. Thomas Middleditch, Martin Starr, Kumail Nanjiani, and T.J. Miller, among many others star in this amazing HBO comedy and these guys are the reason why this show works. Their chemistry is off the charts and each one has incredible comedic timing. Silicon Valley is so much fun to watch because of its great writing and the wonderful cast that it has assembled.
