On Sunday, Manchester faced a struggling Everton side. Before the game started, Manchester United renamed the south stand after Manchester United great Sir Bobby Charlton.

United was coming into this game with a lot of momentum after their 1-0 win against crosstown rival Manchester City. This game propelled them into 5th place and one point away from passing City for 4th place (a spot needed for Champions League qualification). Many analysts had United winning this game, mainly because they have only given up a league-best seven goals this season at Old Trafford. Throughout the game, United was playing pressing football for the first time all season. Everton wanted this and absorbed the offensive bombardments. They wanted this so they could perform quick counter attacks with one of the world’s finest strikers, Romelu Lukaku. However this game plan did not work. With one of the Premier League’s best goalies, David De Gea for Manchester United, Everton did not come close to scoring – they only had one shot on goal. The only goal scored this game was by United’s young star Anthony Martial in the 54th minute. United’s next game is against the second place Tottenham Hotspurs. This will be a difficult game for them, as they are playing the league’s top scorer, Harry Kane.
