The Peanuts Movie Review

The Peanuts Movie Review

Carlo Zahl-Batlle, Staff Writer

Before I say anything about this movie, go watch it! Take your family to the theater and go watch this movie! What I’m trying to say is this movie is one of the best movies of the year. It just brings these beloved characters back in such a great way. It even has some great themes for kids. It’s definitely one of those movies that just makes your heart melt.

The Peanuts Movie brings back all the famed comic strip characters from the most successful comic strip ever. Besides Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Woodstock, Lucy, Linus, and many more, there is a new love interest for Charlie Brown. The main plot of the movie revolves around Charlie Brown and Snoopy’s pursuit of love. Charlie is in love with the little red haired girl who moved in across the street and joins his class, while Snoopy is in love with a fictitious dog he writes to on his typewriter (I swear it’s not as silly as it sounds). Charlie tries again and again to impress the girl while Snoopy (aided by Woodstock) writes a story where he is a pilot in the First World War where he tries to save the dog he loves from the evil pilot, a.k.a the Red Baron. Both storylines are excellent.  Snoopy’s story arc especially demonstrates that this movie is very well put together, as it flows in the backdrop of Charlie Brown’s experiences with the new girl in town. The CGI and 3D animation are great updates for modern cinemas,  it’s just beautiful.  It has been just over 45 years since the last Charlie Brown movie was released.

One thing that this movie has in spades is comedy. Every kid was laughing in the theater, I was laughing out loud at a couple scenes myself. But any kid’s movie can be funny and have good animation.  However, this movie touches on some universal themes. Honesty (when Charlie Brown turns down an award when he realizes the exam he turned in was switched),  how kids should never give up,  and how the underdog can make it in life. So in conclusion, this movie has the perfect ingredients to make it a great movie. It’s funny, heartwarming, has great animation, and is guaranteed to please your kids. So even if you are a teenager or adult, go watch it right as soon as you can: it brings out the kids in all of us.
