On January 9th, Cristiano Ronaldo was announced as the winner of Fifa’s best player award. He beat out rivals Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann to the award. 2016 saw Ronaldo win the Champions League, UEFA Euros, and Club World Cup. On top of that, he scored 42 goals and provided 14 assists, as well as the winning penalty in the Champions League. Ronaldo won 34% of the votes, ahead of Messi and Griezmann who had 26% and 7% respectively.
