On September 15, the Oratory Prep Varsity soccer team hosted Governor Livingston High School. Oratory entered the game 2-1 and ranked ninth in Union County, while GL entered 2-0 and ranked fourth in the county. Oratory got off to a great start after Will Mainente received a pass from Will Gagliano and chipped the keeper no more than a minute into the game. Oratory was able to maintain their 1-0 lead through the first half due to their strong defense and ability to possess the ball. However, ten minutes into the second half Governor Livingston found the equalizer. Nonetheless, Oratory was able to quickly respond with a goal of their own after Will Galiano sent in a cross on a set piece that connected with Anthony Guerrero’s head. Then again five minutes later Gagliano and Guerrero replicated the same exact play to give Oratory a 3-1 lead, but GL had not given up yet and with 10 minutes to go in the game they put another goal in the back of the net.  Now, 3-2 Oratory’s defense was constantly being harassed with through balls and struggling to hold off the committed GL attack.  With less than five minutes left in the game, a GL attacker broke free inside the 18-yard box and released a hard hit shot that was heroically saved by Michael Koomar, who finished the game with nine saves.  Finally, the referee blew the game ending whistle and the Oratory defense had officially held off Governor Livingston, for a great 3-2 victory.

Two days later, the Oratory Prep Soccer team traveled to Roselle Park.  Fresh off their upset victory, the team entered the game extremely confident.  Yet, Oratory struggled to possess the ball on the wet, and bumpy grass field.  Nonetheless, fifteen minutes into the game Oratory had their opening goal after AJ Kopacz dribbled through multiple defenders and laid the ball off for Will Mainente who put it in the back of the net.  However, the Oratory lead would be short lived after Roselle Park quickly answered with a goal of their own.  Within the next fifteen minutes, Roselle Park would have two unsuccessful penalty kicks that goal Michael Koomar was able to valiantly save.  During the second half, Anthony Guerrero was able to head the ball in to give Oratory a 2-1 lead.  Yet again though this lead did not last long after Roselle Park scored two unanswered goals.  The next twenty-five minutes were the most aggressive and tiring minutes of the entire game.  Still, with less than five minutes left AJ Kopacz saved the team by finding the late equalizer.  This sent the game into overtime where it was the golden goal (first to score wins).  The next twenty minutes were even tougher and more aggressive than the last eighty.  Both teams were tired and Roselle Park was down to ten men after a red card.  When the final whistle was blown the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
