One Month ago, Oratory students in the History and Politics club, as well as the International Club had the wonderful opportunity to visit the United Nations headquarters in New York City. After passing through security, we began the tours. The first room was the security conference room. This room is where delegates from other countries come to discuss security matters. Inside this room was decorated with wallpaper which symbolized Peace, Development and Human rights. We then went through other conference rooms such as the Trusteeship council and then the ECOSOC (The United Nations Economic and Social Council) room. Ongoing discussions were happening and while they were in different languages (there were live translations) they were still interesting to listen to! Our guide then discussed the Sustainable Development goals, a group of 17 “goals” the UN seeks to improve. Some of these goals include: Global warming, No poverty, Clean water, Climate Change, etc. Finally we went to our last stop, the General assembly room. Photos do not do this room justice, it is colossal and very impressive. It can fit more than 1000 people and, like most of the other rooms, had an active assembly going so we needed to be quiet. This trip was super interesting, I encourage everyone to join either the History and Politics club or International club if you want to go on amazing trips like these!
