After some time, video games come and go. They stop selling copies and the only way to play them again is through online subscriptions, scalpers, and used copies. But, there is one game that even after it stopped selling, the developers decided to make it practically immortal. That game is Doom(1993). We all know what game this is. It’s an action adventure first person- shooter that takes place in a 3D plane where you must shoot or kick down enemies as you mow them down with a variety of guns and weapons. This could all be played on the Microsoft MS-DOS.

It was a smash hit at the time. The game sold 1 million copies by 1995 and it inspired a whole genre of action shooters and stylized games in pixel art. However, the game started to sell less and less copies considering the fact that 3D technology was rapidly evolving with Quake(1996) coming out as a competitor towards Doom. The original Doom did stem sequels with Doom 2(1994) and Final Doom(1996). However, the devs weren’t just going to let the original game rot out. So in 1997, they made an insane powermove. They released the source code for the original game to the public. Now, anyone can use the code and play the original Doom for free. But, some people decided to take it to the next level. Since the code is so stupidly simple and really small, people have discovered many interesting ways to play Doom. They found ways to play Doom on almost everything. Here is a list of some items that people found ways to play Doom on anything. This includes: a toaster, fridge, ATM, Dashboard, calculator, electronic vape, and even through an E. coli bacteria by using genetically modified cells as a 32×48 resolution organic screen. It might take 8 hours for it to move by one frame, but it works somehow. All of this just shows how Doom really is the most playable game on anything. Not just consoles. Anything!
