The Yankees have had the same problem for a number of years now, and they never seem to fix it: the bullpen. We have seen Yankee pitchers blow games in the past: Aroldis Chapman in 2019, Clay Holmes in 2024, and Mark Leiter Jr in 2025. In 2026, Yankees pitchers like David Bednar and Jake Bird are blowing games, and the season just started. Right now, Jake Bird has a whopping 7.71 ERA, while Bednar has a 4.70. Currently, the Yankees have lost 7 of their last 10 games, being swept by the Rays, a team much weaker than the Yankees. Other noticeable losses are 8-1 to the Angels, and 5-3 to the Marlins. Both of these teams don’t even half the money the Yankees do. As I said in my earlier article about the Yankees, they had not signed any new players the last offseason, even though the bullpen seemed like a priority. Although injured players that are returning soon such as Luis Gil and Gerrit Cole, which will strengthen the bullpen, it seems like it will not be enough to carry the team to a World Series, let alone beat teams that are much worse than them in money and skill.
