On April 8th, Rally for the Rams opened with a wonderful speech from Bo Jackson, one of the greatest athletes in American sports history and the only person to earn All-Star recognition in both professional baseball and football. Bo covered a lot of ground and shared key lessons and messages that helped inspire and motivate our OP community. He started the talk about the importance of education, relating his childhood in Alabama and how his mother used to discipline him about grades. This discipline at home kept Bo out of organized sports until ninth grade, a very late start for such a decorated athlete. Despite this, he persevered and taught us to make the most of our opportunities. He also spoke about respect and other lessons he picked up over his lifetime in and out of sports. Once he wrapped up, students had the chance to ask questions directly to him. Later that day, he traveled into New York City to speak at a separate event for the rest of the OP community of parents and alumni. A few assemblies go unremembered but this one surely won’t.
