As spring sports get underway, it is important not to forget about all of the efforts of our winter sports teams. One team in particular showed remarkable growth throughout the season. They faced a challenging schedule and achieved some impressive wins along the way. With a strong group of seniors and lots of potential underclassmen, this team has its eyes set on continued success for years to come.
The season started off with a brutal schedule; Newark Academy, Columbia, and Montclair Kimberley back to back. Columbia in particular was one of the best teams in the state, so a close 17-10 loss proved that the Rams could compete with any teams they faced. After the rocky start, the Rams got their footing and started stacking wins, as they crushed McNair 20-7, and defeated West Orange 15-12. After a close loss to Milburn the boys took down Morris Catholic, and then lost to Montclair 15-12 in a neck and neck match.
Multiple fencers had outstanding seasons this year, most notably Nick Notopradono. The senior attending U Chicago next year played a vital role in the game, and used his leadership to guide his team to wins. He finished with a Saber record of 9-0, the best on the team. His fellow senior, Henry Farabee also played a vital role on the Foil side, achieving a 6-2 record on the season. While these were standout performances, guys like Max Copp-Salko, Zav Wolf, and Harley Lee provided depth. With the departure of some critical seniors, all eyes will be on Cole Burlage, Harley Lee, and CJ Mavin as they step up into their senior leadership roles.
This season was filled with growth, perseverance, and determination. The boys in blue fought their way to huge victories, and excelled personally and as a team. With a group of strong Juniors and Sophomores, the Rams will pick up right as they left off next year.
