This winter, the Rams faced a difficult season. The snow and cold weather was the worst in years. However, the team still had a great season. There are twelve events this winter, and eight of those records have been broken. Twelve grade records were also broken. One NJCTC title was one, one meet of champions qualifier, and multiple Nike Nationals qualifiers.
There are twelve events for winter: 55 meter dash, 55 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 1600m run, and 3200m run on the track. Off the track for field events is: Shot put, high jump, long jump, pole vault, and triple jump. The first school record taken was the 55 meter dash by senior Brody Sheenan. At the Prep Meet he ran 6.83 seconds. This is one of the twelve grade records broken and a school record. He was met alongside fellow sprinter Flynn Breeze who broke the 55 meter hurdles school record. Breeze ran his PR at preps also with a 7.85 second 55m hurdle time. This was another grade and school record. The 200 meter dash record was broken by Brody Sheenan. He has many school records and added another with a 23.21 second race at Essex County Season Opener Invite. The third record at the Preps meet was once again set by Brody Sheenan. He was placed in the fastest heat against top talent and ran 51.79, a school record and another grade record. This also allowed him to get third place overall in that race.
On the distance side, two records were broken. Both were by Richmond commit Connor Bassolino. At the state meet, Bassolino beat out Florida State commit Wyatt Falkoski at the line for a 4:21.96. This was a school record he took from himself from his junior year. Bassolino also had the two mile record, but beat it by 25 seconds at counties. For the second season straight, Connor won the Union County 3200m race. He ran 9:32 in a school record time.
There were also two records set on the field side of the track. Joey DeMarco, a senior thrower and Lafayette commit, threw 52-2 in shot put. DeMarco also won counties for shot put. He took down a record from 2011 with this throw. Brody Sheenan also broke the long jump record with a 21-3.25 foot jump. This was another school and grade record.
The Rams also won the NJCTC meet. On February 16, 2026 at Ocean Breeze, the Rams won the small school division. Scorers on this meet were: Joey Demarco getting first place for shot put, Brody Sheenan in long jump, Robert Dudley in the 1000m, Jordan Hotra in the 1000m, Brody Sheenan in the 300m, Greyson Astle in the 3200m, Jack Ebert in the 600m, Connor Bassolinio in the 1600m, the 4x800m relay of Jordan Hotra, Chad Vassalo, Robert Dudley, and Greyson Astle, and finally the 4×4 squad of Connor Bassolino, Jack Ebert, Brandon Jones, and Brody Sheenan.
The other grade records and notable performances were the underclassmen. The Rams proved to have a strong group of underclassmen this season. (All these records are grade records from OP) Two freshmen placed top five all time in the 200m dash for OP: Robert Dudley and Graham Fergueson. Graham also was number five all time in the 400m dash. Robert Dudley took down the 800m record by six seconds with a time of 2:06. Greyson Astle was also third all-time in the 800m for freshman. In the 1600m, three freshmen were in the top five. Robert Dudley took down the record with a 4:43. Greyson Astle was second all time with a 4:51. Stephen Polefko was fifth all time with a 4:56. In the 3200m, two freshmen were in the top 5. Stephen Polefko took down the overall record with a 10:35. Greyson Astle was fourth all time. Evan McElroy was also fourth all time in shot put.
Notable performances by sophomores was the 55m record by Ben Oniwinde with a 7.21. This is a grade record. On the distance side, Henry Salaki was fourth all time with a 4:49. In the 3200m, three sophomores were in the top five. Chad Vassallo 10:31, Henry Salaki 10:33, and Jordan Hotra, 10:39. Logan Conception was also fourth all time in shot put. Ben Oniwinde also broke the long jump record for sophomores with an 18-1.
The team also had seven athletes go to Nike Indoor Nationals. Robert Dudley ran the freshman mile (1609m) and ran 4:44. Connor Bassolino ran the 3200m. An SMR team of Brody Sheenan, Brandon Jones, Jack Ebert, and Robert Dudley ran 3:50. Joey DeMarco also threw in a shot put.
In recap, there was a lot of success this season. 7 national qualifiers, 1 Meet of Champions Qualifier, 2 County Champions Qualifiers, and many records. The senior class set many school and grade records. However, the Rams have a strong group of underclassmen to compete with those records soon. It was a great season and the Rams hope to build on it in spring!
