Every March Madness has had its surprises, and this one has not disappointed fans so far. Here are my thoughts on the tournament as we approach the Sweet 16.
Texas: Pure Underdogs
The Longhorns have shocked everyone in this tournament. They won in the First Four, beating NC State by a point, and have beaten the 6 Seed BYU and the 3 Seed Gonzaga. Not to mention, they are the 4th team in tournament history to make it to the Sweet 16 when starting in the first four. Will Texas move on to beat Purdue, notorious for losing to underdogs?
Gonzaga and Villanova: FRAUDS
Come on. You’re the 3 seed and you get upset AGAIN (Looking at you, Gonzaga)?!? And Villanova, sure it was a 8 & 9 seed game, but you were picked by A LOT of people in their brackets to win this game, and you ruined their chances of having a perfect bracket. Both of these teams have a history of being frauds too.
Brackets: Shattered
This may have been one of the years of the tournament where almost everyone’s bracket was ruined early. First off, we saw High Point pull off a major upset on Wisconsin in the round of 32. VCU did as well, but to NORTH CAROLINA. This is what was the dagger on our brackets. Other reasons are Florida’s elimination, Tennessee losing to Virginia (this game was the reason there are no more perfect brackets in the world), and St John’s beating Kansas. Although the last one was played between two even seeds, a lot of people picked Kansas.
Overall, this March Madness has been filled with a lot of surprises, and we have just reached the sweet 16; From brackets ruined, to North Carolina blowing leads. What will happen next? Will there be a champion no one picked? Or the favorite living up to their name?
