This story takes place on a cold, Sunday morning in Milan, the day of the end of the Olympics. The time is 8 AM ET. Many Americans wake up early for one event: the Men’s Hockey Gold Medal game. The game is between two titans in hockey: USA and Canada. Canada is the favorite, but not for long, as the game would go into overtime. That is when Jack Hughes made a name for himself. About 3 minutes into overtime, Hughes scored on Canadian goalie Jordan Binnington to clinch the gold medal. Within seconds, he was given titles of an “American Hero”, and “Golden Boy”, for scoring a goal that had us thinking of the 1980 US team, the one that beat the Soviets to win the gold. Now, USA Hockey is re-living this memory, only with a newer team. The goal he scored was also tough in its purest form. After taking a slash up high, Hughes had lost a couple teeth, rather than leaving the game, he decided to stay, making the right choice. Now, the picture of him toothless while holding the American flag has gone viral, and this goal has given hockey more attention. I can’t wait to see this team in the 2030 Olympics. Could they go back to back?
