On Tuesday February 10, 2026 the Rahway Indians came to DeGaeta Hall to take on the Rams. Oratory has had this matchup twice, winning both by a combined 49 points. Rahway was 2-21, but had beaten Summit earlier this year. This was the first round of the Union County Tournament. The winner of this matchup would play Westfield.
The ball tipped off at 7 PM, and Rahway was playing a 2-3 zone. However, the Rams were set up for some easy threes, lay ups, and transition buckets. On the other side of the ball Rahway was making many mistakes. 24-7 the Rams led at the end of the first quarter.
In the second half Rahway played clean. They stopped turning over the ball. In the first they had over five turnovers, in the second quarter they had one. This allowed them to score 22 points in an eight minute quarter. However, their defense could still not figure out how to stop the Rams from scoring. Connor Lee was on fire in this quarter knocking down multiple mid range in the 2-3 zone. Both teams went into the locker room at half with a score of 42-29.
The third opened with multiple missed shots and turnovers by the Rams. Then, some lackadaisical defensive plays allowed Rahway to cut the lead under ten. Rahway then proceeded to knock down free throws and cut it to seven. However, a Will Kostka put back brought the lead to nine. The rest of the quarter the Rams were in control. Both teams were about even for the last five minutes and the Rams lead ebbed and flowed around ten to twelve. The third quarter ended with the Rams up eleven.
In the fourth Rahway went on a 11-2 run held together by the trapping 1-3-1 zone. The Rams couldn’t score and weren’t getting great looks. They were holding onto the ball and playing monkey-in-the-middle over the defender. With about two minutes left Ryan Fay hit a floater to bring the lead to eight. The Rams then hit Rahway with traps of their own and Rahway took some bad shots. This allowed the Rams to go up eleven. Ryan Fay hit some free throws to clutch up the game: 67-56 the Rams won.
This game wasn’t the Rams best. They couldn’t score, and played down to the other teams level. Although, they won, which is the most important thing. They played Westfield in the first round of the Union County Tournament (this was the preliminary). Next week they also have senior night on the 19th. Finally, a possible double home state game can happen depending on power points. The Rams currently sit at 5, but if they win a couple more and move to 4 that would be a reality.
