On February 4, the Oratory Prep Rams 2025–2026 hockey regular season came to a close with a 3-0 loss to Millburn. Under new head coach Barry Dreger, the Rams reached new heights, finishing 11–5–1 and earning their first winning record in eight years. I recently had the chance to sit down with freshman player George Morgan to ask him about his thoughts on the season.
- How do you feel about Oratory Prep’s 11–5–1 finish this season, Rams hockey’s first winning record since the 2017–2018 season?
“I think we’re all happy about it. I think we expected to have a winning record this year, and we’re glad we got it done. We played some good teams and we held our own, but I think the real job is winning our division and winning the whole thing in the playoffs, and that’s our main goal.”
- How do you feel about your performance this season as just a freshman, where you finished with the team’s third-highest point total at 15?
“I think I had a good start. I think I’ve slowed down a bit later in the season, but I definitely couldn’t have done it without my teammates.”
- What was the biggest or most memorable moment of the season?
“The most memorable moment was probably my first game, because I was really, really nervous going into it, but as soon as I stepped on the ice I felt calm, and I finished with a goal and an assist.”
- How have you and your teammates improved over the course of the season?
“I think we’ve definitely become a more structured and organized team compared to the beginning of the season, and we’re definitely playing as a group now. We know what to expect from each other and can rely on each other.”
- Do you think the Rams have what it takes to make a deep playoff run and take down top competitors in the state tournament?
“Absolutely. No question about it.”
You heard it from George Morgan himself—the Rams are ready for action in the state tournament. The postseason will begin some time in early March, after the seeding is decided. It takes just one loss to end the Rams’ season, but with the confidence that this team has, I believe they can make a deep run and contend for a state title.
