With 2025 coming to an end I ranked every movie I saw in theaters or at home that came out this year.
- I Know What You Did Last Summer
The weakest movie I saw in 2025. The movie started out solid, but I just lost interest as the movie went on and it got repetitive. It was still an enjoyable movie but having not seen the original movie I felt lost and confused about some of the plot points.
- Him
The only reason this movie is higher than I Know What You Did Last Summer is because of its plot. I was so excited for this movie. A sports horror movie had virtually never been done before, and it showed how poorly this movie was.
- A Minecraft Movie
The rest of these movies starting here were all very enjoyable for me. While A Minecraft Movie was pretty lackluster in terms of plot and high stakes action , it made up for it with all the memes and comedy. I remember seeing this with a packed theater, and the crowd going nuts over all the memorable lines, such as “chicken jockey.”
- Captain America: Brave New World
This movie is so forgettable that I had to look back at all my movie tickets before realizing I saw this. I think that sums up the movie: boring. The red hulk was barely in it, which was the only part I was excited for.
- Happy Gilmore 2
Most people would have this movie last, but based on my personal bias, I loved this movie. Being a fan of the first movie, I had little expectations for this. Those expectations were met, but I had a really fun time seeing all the cameos and PGA Tour players. I wasn’t a fan of the MAXI league and all that came with it, as this was the biggest problem I had with the film. It made no sense and was weird.
- 28 Years Later
This was the first movie of the franchise I had seen, and I enjoyed it. If you can get over the abstract way the movie is filmed, It’s a solid movie. I thought it had a good message about how we respond to death.
- Fantastic Four
This movie was kinda disappointing. I was really excited to see Galactus and the new Fantastic Four crew, but there were so many bad decisions made that made no sense. First of all, they never should have told the media what Galactus was asking for in their child. Secondly, they never should have defeated Galactus. I thought he could be the next Thanos but I guess not.
- Thunderbolts
I watched this movie when it came out on Disney+. I had heard the good reviews and was excited to see what it had. Overall, this was a great movie. Marvel finally made a good movie for the first time in years.
- One Battle After Another
The people whom I saw this movie with claimed it was one of the best movies of the year. While I thought it was good, I couldn’t really get into it. I thought it was a bit confusing and had an okay plot. Still a great movie, but I wouldn’t say it was the best of 2025.
- Avatar: Fire and Ash
I love the Avatar movies. I thought the second movie was better than the first. I saw this movie in Dolby 3D and it looked incredible. While this addition to the franchise was good, I wouldn’t say it’s better than the first 2. There were a lot of questionable decisions by some characters that I didn’t really like, and the final battle was a combination of the first 2 movies’ final battles. I was kinda just saying the whole movie “haven’t we already seen this?”
- Frankenstein
I thought Frankenstein was a great movie because it showed what can happen when someone wants too much power. Watching Victor create the monster and then deal with what he did was very interesting. The movie made me feel bad for the monster but also understand why people were afraid of him, which made the story strong and easy to remember. I was unfamiliar with the Frankenstein book so this story was all new to me.
- Superman
Superman was expected to be good, and it was. There isn’t much to be said about it. Just a great Superman movie that has a good message about what it means to be human.
- Weapons
It was a great year for original horror movies, as seen in the top 2 movies on this list. I was intrigued by Weapons the second I saw the trailer. It did not disappoint. It delivered on all the suspense, drama, and horror. The tension built throughout the film, and the third act took a twist I didn’t see coming, which made the ending even better. The movie mixed mystery and horror really well without giving too much away, and it touched on deeper ideas like fear and survival while still being scary. Overall, it’s one of the best horror/mystery movies I’ve seen in a long time. But not as good as the movie in first place.
- Sinners
My favorite movie of 2025 was a new horror movie from Ryan Coogler. This movie has everything. Comedy, suspense, drama, and horror. It delivers on all these aspects. What made me like this movie so much was how unique it was. There was so much lore and complexity to the film that had me asking so many questions afterwards and wanting more. I liked how the characters felt real and had strong emotions that made the story more powerful. The movie also used dark visuals and sound to keep me nervous the whole time, which made the experience exciting and hard to forget. However there were other parts of the movie that made me forget that this was a horror movie. This is what made it such a fun and entertaining movie that ultimately landed it as the best of the year.

Nicely done! However, I feel Captain America was ranked too highly for how poor it was.
