George Morgan is a freshman here at Oratory Prep who is very athletic to say the least, as he made JV soccer (before moving to varsity) as a freshman as well as the varsity hockey team. From someone who has shared the field with him, the energy he brings is amazing. He always helped others when they weren’t feeling their best and pushed us all to succeed. His goals and assists contributed to a lot of our success. When he was moved up, it was made ever-so-evident of his impact. Let’s see what the Madison-made athlete has to say.
How do you feel you performed this season for soccer?
“I think I played pretty well. I think I wasn’t expecting to play varsity, or even JV. Once I made it to JV, I kept working which led to a spot on the varsity practice squad. Shortly after, I started playing on varsity. I am very happy with how the season ended.”
What was your role on the soccer team
“My role was striker. I added speed, grit, and didn’t give the defenders an easy time.”
What teammate stood out to you?
“I think Caylor Mendez stood out to me because he did a good job at working hard in practice and played very well in games. Him working hard made me want to work hard too.”
What could you have done better?
“I think I could’ve scored and assisted more, but from a personal standpoint, I think I could’ve taken varsity more seriously, because at the beginning I didn’t realize just how big of a jump going from JV to Varsity was.”
What are your goals for next season?
“Next season, I am looking to get bigger and stronger as a person, and to become more of a leader on the team. I also want to score more goals on the team and improve my speed.”
What are your hopes with hockey this season?
“Obviously, my first two games have gone well and I am happy with my performances. I want to continue to be consistent and to work hard as well as contributing a lot to the team offensively.”
What was your favorite soccer game of the season?
“My favorite game of the season was when we played Rahway with the varsity team. Despite not winning, it was my first time getting good varsity minutes. It boosted my confidence a lot and made me realize I have the ability to play at a high level.”
Is there a hockey game in particular you are looking forward to?
“I am looking forward to the Morristown game because I have a couple buddies on that team and we are playing them on their senior night, and honestly, I am hoping to not make their senior night easy.”
Do you like Oratory so far?
“I am really loving Oratory. It is an awesome school and a great group of guys. Everyone cares a lot about the school, and it shows.”
Tell me something surprising.
“I wasn’t planning on playing soccer this year because I was burnt out in the past. However, my parents urged me to play to meet some new people. It ended up being a great thing and I am grateful my parents made me play.”
