It’s that time of year again. It’s Thanksgiving. The day where relatives come to visit, watch sports, and argue about politics. It’s a fun time and people show up to others to mingle as well as eat food and show their thankfulness. It’s a great holiday and it deserves to be more anticipated. However, some people are not as fortunate to be able to celebrate this holiday. Some of these unfortunate people have to spend the holiday in the cold alone with no one else to celebrate with them. Some people don’t have the liberty to eat during the holiday, or at all. About 8% of the world have hungry stomachs with no food or money to purchase food. One thing that ordinary people like me and you could do is to volunteer at a local soup kitchen. You could help people serve the poor warm soup to at least sustain their hunger. Another thing that we take for granted is a warm blanket. Some people don’t have anything to cover with when the harsh winter climate is nearing. About 2% of the World’s population doesn’t have a roof under them. That might be a smaller percentage than people with hunger. We could solve this easily by donating clothes such as coats, hats, gloves, or scarfs that don’t fit you to the nearest clothes drive in your area. That way they could have warmth in the winter.
The best thing and the easiest way to give thanks to your community is to say thank you. It doesn’t matter if they did a good deed today or from a past time, just say thank you. Thank you for being there and for helping us. And if you want, invite them over. It doesn’t matter if they are not close friends or relatives, invite them over, watch football with them, argue about politics, and most importantly, have dinner with them. That’s what strengthens bonds and makes any Thanksgiving special. So, Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
