On the day of the NFL trade deadline, the New York Jets made drastic changes, trading franchise stars and former All-Pros Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams. While it hurts to see them leave, the return for both players was abundant. The team already stunk with them on the roster, so transitioning for the future and entering yet another rebuild may be the move. The Jets sent Sauce Gardner to the Colts in return for a 2026 first-round pick and a 2027 first-round pick. They also acquired a young wide receiver in Adonai Mitchell. He joins an already lackluster wide receiver room that contains only Garrett Wilson. Quinnen Williams was dealt to the Cowboys in return for a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 first-round pick. They also acquired a former first-round pick in Mazi Smith.
With all this draft capital and young assets, the future for the Jets could be bright. There are some standout prospects and potential quarterback options that could be in the picture for the Jets this upcoming draft. If they decided to go quarterback in the 2026 draft, they will likely have the options of Fernando Mendoza, Ty Simpson, and Dante Moore. There are also wide receiver standouts like Jordyn Tyson, Carnell Tate, and Makai Lemon. This year also has some of the best defensive prospects, such as Rueben Bain Jr., Caleb Downs, Arvell Reese, Peter Woods, Jermod McCoy, and Sonny Styles. Acquiring any of these prospects would be an instant upgrade for the Jets.
If the Jets decide to wait till 2027 for a quarterback, they will have options such as Arch Manning, Dylan Raiola, and Julian Sayin. This class, however, may be the weaker of the 2 at the QB position. This class could have some of the best wide receiver prospects in a while, though, with Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams. The defensive prospects such as Leonard Moore, Dylan Stewart, Jordan Ross, and Koi Perich could also be desirable options for the Jets. The Jets will have tons of options in 2027 with 3 first-round picks. Regardless of the moves and picks the team decides to make, new GM Darren Mougey clearly wants to shape this team in his own vision, free from the previous regime that had only displayed a losing roster.
