After a close Game 7 win, the Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series champions for the second year in a row. This was one of the best and most entertaining series in recent years. From the highs and lows to the great performances from both teams, this was something every baseball fan could want.
The series started in Toronto, and they were determined. After scoring nine runs in the sixth inning thanks to a pinch-hit grand slam, the Blue Jays won the game 11-4. This gave the team early momentum and made people wonder if this could really be their year. In Game 2, the Dodgers reminded them of who they are. Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw a complete game, only allowing four hits. The Dodgers bounced back and won 5-1 in Toronto.
The series moved to Los Angeles, and this game was a long one. The teams battled into the 18th inning, where Freddie Freeman hit a clutch walk-off home run in a 6-5 win for the Dodgers. This became one of the longest games in World Series history. This 2-1 lead was big. However, this changed in Game 4 when the Blue Jays knocked in 6 runs to tie the series up with the help of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who drove in 2. The Blue Jays came up with the win again in Game 5. Rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage, who was playing in the minor leagues just a few months ago, struck out 12 Dodgers in a great 6-1 win. Now, the Dodgers face elimination back in Toronto. The recent champs had to rely on their key players to make a difference and stay alive. Mookie Betts hit a two-run double, helping the Dodgers hold onto their 3-1 win.
The finale is here. Game 7, in Toronto, everything is on the line. By the end of the ninth inning, they were tied 4-4, pushing this game into overtime yet again. Dodgers Catcher Will Smith hit a solo home run in the top of the 11th to give the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. Their ace, Yamamoto, took the mound with very little time to recover from the last game. It was a close finish that ended with a double play, leading to the Dodgers’ victory.
Yamamoto was the World Series MVP for his dominant performance. His two wins and a save, along with his 1.05 ERA, were one of the best stat lines for the World Series in a while. This isn’t the end for Toronto. This was a great effort, and they proved that they could compete. For now, the Dodgers remain the back-to-back champs and closed their 2025 season with a ring.
