Hunger is on the rise, and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and Salvation Army are asking for your support. As of Saturday, nearly 42 million Americans lost their access to food stamp benefits through SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Food banks are in critical need of our support to help those in need. According to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey website, www.cfbnj.org, nearly 1.1 million New Jersey residents face food insecurity, including over 270,000 children. That means 1 in 7 kids in our state might not know where their next meal is coming from. Additionally, The Salvation Army website reports that while they continue to respond to their more than 7,400 locations, they realized that increased service will be challenging without the support of donors. Together, members of Oratory Prep can make a collective impact, especially as we head into the holiday season, by bringing in donations to go to those in need.
From November 3rd to November 19th, the St. Philip Neri Club is running our Thanksgiving Food Drive to collect non-perishable items for the food-insecure. Each grade is tasked with bringing the following items:
7th Grade: Cereal – Pancake Mix – Flour – Sugar
8th Grade: Canned Fruit – Jello Mix/Chocolate Pudding Mix
9th Grade: Canned Soup – Pasta & Sauces
10th Grade: Canned Vegetables – Rice – Beans
11th Grade: Mashed Potato Mix – Stuffing – Canned Gravy – Cranberry Sauce
12th Grade: Coffee – Hot Chocolate – Apple/Grape Juice
Staff Members: Any donations are much appreciated.
The grade that donates the most will receive a Dress Down Day to honor their collective contributions. If you wish to donate a frozen turkey/chicken, it must be dropped off on the morning of November 19th. Please also note that the St. Philip Neri Club will only be collecting non-perishable items, no glass jars. The donation bins will have each grade number on them, and they can be found in the Bain lobby. These items are suggested, and any donation of non-perishable goods is greatly appreciated.
Let’s come together as an OP Family to serve our community with God’s love.
