Politics Update: Iowa and New Hampshire

The Iowa caucus was on January 15th – here is what you need to know.  The leading representative was former president Donald Trump, followed by Ron Desantis, Nikki Haley, and Vivek Ramaswamy respectively.  After the first caucus for 2024, Ron Desnatis and Vivek Ramaswamy dropped out of the race and endorsed Donald Trump. This was due to Trump winning 51% of the vote, getting double what Desantis and Haley got.

The New Hampshire primary was shortly after the Iowa caucus on January 23rd.  As expected, Donald Trump won the vote. However, his lead narrowed.  With Desnatis and Ramaswamy dropping out of the race after Iowa, there were many more votes for Nikki Haley.  Donald Trump still led the polls with 54% of the vote compared to Haley’s 43%.  The Win for Trump was expected, but Haley did make it much closer than expected.

Although these are only the first polls of the race for the republic bid they are often the most telling.  Many of the candidates that won Iowa and New Hampshire went on to win the Republican nomination later in the year.  Even though Nikki Haley lost both of the first two polls, she has vowed to stay in the race against Trump until Super Tuesday, which is the day that a majority of the states will either have their caucus or primary.
