Led by Coach Craig, The Oratory Prep JV hockey team has had an incredible season so far with a record of 5-0-2. The Rams recently defeated Glen Rock High School 7-1 giving the team momentum for a difficult matchup against Saint Peters Prep this past weekend.

Oratory Prep Rams v. Saint Peters Prep Marauders

1st Period:

The Rams began the game strong with great defensive play and puck movement. However, Saint Peters Prep matched the Rams’ play resulting in a 0-0 score at the end of the first period. Oratory goaltender Ayyub Vickers played incredibly in the first period, helping to keep the game tied.

2nd Period:

The Rams started the second period off hot with a deflection goal from Matt Moran off a blast from Ronan McGuire, for a 1-0 lead just thirty seconds into the period. However, some questionable decisions behind the Rams’ own net allowed St. Peters Prep to tally up a goal, tying the game later in the period at 1-1. The Rams were not able to cash in on a powerplay chance in the period, and St. Peters Prep countered with another goal to take a 2-1 lead. Near the end of the period, Arsenii Vorobev netted a breakaway goal to tie the game at 2-2, ending the period on a high note for the Rams.

3rd Period:

Both teams went back and forth, one defensive play after another, keeping the offenses quiet for the majority of the period. Tension rose as the clock continued to run. Finally, an offensive chance was given to the Rams when a charging penalty was called on St. Peters Prep. As the penalty was close to being killed off by St. Peters Prep, strong defense kept the puck in the zone and Arsenii Vorobev went behind the opponent’s net to give forward Joey Fisher a spin-o-rama pass for a tie-breaking goal to take a 3-2 lead. All the Rams had to do was protect the lead for the next two minutes to win the game. With a minute left, St. Peters Prep called a timeout, pulling their goalie to give themselves an extra man advantage. Stellar defense from the Rams and key saves by Ayyub Vickers, sealed the game for the Rams and sent the Marauders back to Jersey City.

This was a huge win for the Rams and the best game they’ve played so far this season.
