Ben’s Breakfast Sandwich Review: The Bagelry

(Via Trip Advisor)
(Via Trip Advisor)

A couple of years ago, my dad gave my brother, Emmett, former editor of the Omega, an excellent article idea: to embark on a morning quest for a delicious breakfast sandwich, and subsequently craft a review. Emmett, being the foolish man he is, didn’t take my dad up on his offer. However, I recognize its brilliance, so I will use my dad’s ideas.

To start off this review, I focused on a Morristown bagel shop that I pass on my way to school every day–The Bagelry. Due to The Omega’s headquarters being in New Jersey, I thought it was mandatory that I get the national breakfast sandwich in New Jersey–the Taylor ham, egg, and cheese.

Now onto the review: The first thing I noticed when I opened up the tin foil wrapping was the thickness of the bagel. The bread itself was probably over an inch thick on each side. On top of that, after taking just one look at the insides of the bagel, I saw two slices of Taylor ham, distributed throughout the bagel. In Between each slice, there was gooey American cheese and there were two eggs, one on the top, and one on the bottom.

For the purpose of this review, I’ll draw inspiration from one of the greatest reviewers of all time, Dave Portnoy, and adopt his “one-bite rule,” where he takes just one bite of the pizza he reviews. So, I took one big bite on the side of the bagel. The first thing I noticed was the bagel itself. It was crispy on the outside, but when you bite into it you feel the fluffiness and the heat of it. The next thing I noticed was biting into the Taylor Ham and having American cheese burst in my mouth. It was great. However, there was a flaw with the Taylor Ham. Usually, I want a nice, crispy Taylor Ham, but this wasn’t so. It was pretty good, but it wasn’t great. And finally, I felt the egg which was perfectly seasoned with a yoke that was already cracked so it wasn’t messy.

But now it is time for the rating itself. I will rate the sandwich out of ten by combining all the ingredients. For example, I will rate the cheese out of two, I will rate the egg out of two, and I will rate the bagel out of three and the taylor ham out of three.

Cheese: 2/2

Egg: 1.5/2

Bagel: 3/3

Taylor Ham: ⅔

Total: 8.5/10

This was a great bagel sandwich, I would totally recommend it to anyone going through morristown in the morning.
