October 17th, 1979

On this date in 1979, Mother Teresa was awarded her Nobel Prize. Mother Teresa was known for many things such as her charity work and encouraging messages. Mother Teresa saved millions of lives and will be remembered by many as an amazing role model and just person in general.

 

October 17th, 1777

On this date in 1777, John Burgoyne, a British General, surrendered his troops during the Second Battle of Saratoga. The battle ended with around 150 American casualties and a staggering 600 casualties to the British army, giving the Americans a huge morale boost.

October 17th, 1854

On this date in 1854, The British and French began their siege on Sevastopol during the Crimean war. The Crimean war was fought in order to decide who would have Authority over Orthodox Christians in Ottoman territory. This siege was a great turning point in the war, and began to turn the tides in the favor of the alliance (which consisted mainly of the Ottomans, the British, and the French.)
