Rams Pick Up Huge Win Against Elizabeth To Secure Third Place In The Mountain Division

On Thursday, the Varsity Baseball team traveled to Elizabeth to play their last divisional game of the season. Earlier in the season when they played Elizabeth the Rams struggled in the field as well as to get the bats going early in the game. Elizabeth beat them in 5 innings 11-1, in which it served as more of a wake up call for the Rams. Since the last game against Elizabeth the Rams have been playing competitive .500 baseball, and have significantly improved since their game at home. On the bump for the Rams was their ace Micheal Greco, who has been dominant in his last two games. Greco in his last two starts has combined for 16 k’s, and has been an absolute problem for opposing hitters. The Rams would not be able to get anything going in the first inning, in which Elizabeth would respond to that by taking a 1-0 lead off a single. The Minutemen would proceed to load the bases with 1 out, for their 6 hitter. Greco proceeded to get the final two outs of the inning, and give the Rams a chance to actually compete in this game. The Rams would start the second inning off with Kevin Colandrea up, in which he would hit a single up the middle to start things off for the Rams.  Seelagy would follow by hitting a single in the gap to set up second and third with no one out. Noah Falcon would proceed to continue his hot streak by hitting a chopper on the third base side that scored Colandrea due to smart base running. George Fagan would come in to run for Noah Falcon, and proceed to steal a base to put runners at second and third once again in a 1-1 ball game. Kevin Parker hit a bomb to the left field fence, one hopping the wall, that scored both Seelagy and Fagan for a 3-1 lead. Elizabeth would go on to score one more in the bottom half of the second, before the Rams put up a six spot in the top of the third. With them having such a significant lead, the offensive side allowed Greco to dominate for two and two thirds more innings until his exit in the bottom of the fifth. Ryan Sontoriello would come in to put in the final finishing touches for the Rams pitching 1 and a third innings, striking out one in an impressive appearance. Mj Cohen came in to get the final two outs to give the Rams a 12-6 win to secure third place in the conference at a 6-6 record. Key players from the game were Joe Loiacono with 4 hits and 3 RBI’s, Kevin Parker with 2 hits and 4 RBI’s, and Noah Falcon with 2 hits and an rbi. The Rams play Gill St Bernards at home for the “Senior Day,” in their last game before the state tournament.
