JV Basketball Update: Rams Destroy New Providence In First Meeting of the Season

George Fagan, Staff Writer

The Oratory Rams and New Providence Pioneers met at DeGeata this past weekend in their first meeting of the new season. Dating back to last year, New Providence swept Oratory as freshmen, in which they developed their scouting report to be great shooters and crazy finishers. Although they were much better than the Rams last season, OP did not let this get in their way and they were still looking for a win. After the first quarter, the Rams would be down by five, but would be optimistic after New Providence had missed several opportunities. The Rams would have a beautiful second quarter led by Ryan Fay and Jack Olohan, putting the Rams up 28-27 at the end of the first half. Out of the half, the Rams would get five straight steals and out score the Pioneers by a significant margin in the third quarter. The Rams would lead by fifteen entering the fourth quarter and would maintain the 15 point lead until the end of the game. The key to their win would be their consistent rebounding, steals, and finishing at the rim. Another key to it would be their three point shooting led by Olohan, Kostka, and Fay. The leading sorcerer for the Rams would be Ryan Fay who scored 22 points to continue his phenomenal freshman campaign. The Rams improved their record to a 7-9 and will . The Rams will now look to see where they seed in the Union County Tournament.
