OP Hoops Update: Road Win Completes Season Sweep Against Rahway

Gabriel Costa, Staff Writer

With the Rams coming off an incredible home win against longtime rival Delbarton, OP Hoops went on the road to face off against Rahway High School for the second time this season. The last time these two teams faced off it resulted in OP winning in confident fashion, with a final score of 69 to 39; the team expected nothing less leading up to this game. Contrary to the past few games, the starting lineup featured OP Hoops Star Mike Pirone for the first time since reinjuring his ankle during the season opener at Hillside. Alongside Mike included his brother John (Foward), Junior Pat Conniff (Center), and guards Asher Bradley and Greg Jones. The brotherly duo of Mike and John Pirone did not disappoint, – combining for 24 points (13 from Mike and 11 from John). Mike led the team in scoring by not missing a shot all night – going 3 for 3 from beyond the arc and 4 for 4 at the free throw line. Asher Bradley and Pat Conniff both impacted the box score with the Sophomore guard putting up 13 points and 7 assists while the Junior center led the team in rebounds with 7 and scoring 11 points of his own. On the defensive end, these two did not disappoint as Bradley tallied 3 steals and Conniff had 4 blocks by the time the final buzzer sounded. Senior Greg Jones also took part in this masterclass against Rahway having 9 points. The games final score ended at 57-41 in favor of the Rams, after an 18-7 4th quarter run led OP past Rahway. The Rams look to continue this win streak facing off against undefeated conference opponent Scotch-Plains Fanwood on Thursday – hoping to get their revenge following their last encounter which resulted in a 2 point loss for the Rams in Mike Pirone’s absence.
