JV Rams Crush Rahway, Earn 2nd Straight Win

George Fagan, Staff Writer

On Thursday afternoon, the Oratory JV Basketball team was set to face a strong Rahway team for their seventh game of the season. They were looking to continue their momentum, by playing their tough style of defense and conservative offense, which has been successful in recent games. The Rams have been 3-1 in their last four games, which has been a significant sign of improvement from starting at a 1-2 record. The game would start out fast for both teams, with Rahway and Oratory scoring 35 points combined in the first quarter. Rahway was leading by three (19-16) after the first 8 minutes. In the first quarter, Jack Olohan would help the Rams by hitting two three, along with 6 points from Ryan Fay which would help them slim down Rahways lead. The Rams would have to turn it on in the second quarter, and proceeded to outscored Rahway 17-4, which would put them up by ten at the half. This would be possible thanks to several Henry Bolster rebounds, a Kostka 3, and multiple Julian Stauffer assists. The Rams would continue this style of play in the third quarter, scoring 18 points to enlarge their lead even more. In the end, the Rams would win 65-42 to improve their record to 4-3, and would get them over the .500 mark. The game leaders in points would be Freshman Ryan Fay with 14 points, as he continues to be their leading scorer. Henry Bolster would finish with a double double (13 points and 12 rebounds) which is a season high for him. Ryan Fay would also lead the team with 6 assists which would be his season high as well. Jalen Brogdon would help with the scoring as well – chipping in with 9 of his own, while Jack Olohan and Will Kostka both had 8. The Rams look to play a strong Scotch Plains team next Tuesday, where they look to expand upon their recent wins.
