Early Season Swim Recap

Charlie Kline, Staff Writer

So far the swim season has been quite a success. Oratory jumped out to a 2-1 start, with their only loss coming to the 4th best team in the state, Westfield. Aside from that, wins came against Governor Livingston (90-80) and Union.

OP vs. Westfield

The boys, after a strong showing against Union, fell short at Westfield. Westfield is forever good, and it was a good showing for Oratory. Both Paul Knecht and Charlie Kline won an individual event. Knecht won the 100 Breastroke with a 1:08.11. Kline won the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:08.59. Second place finishes came from Charlie Kline, Paul Knecht, and Will Foucher (2), in the 200 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 100 free respectively. This meet was a great start for the guys, considering it is the best we have done against Westfield in a while. Points were also scored by Conor Heffernan, Henry Crowther, Brice Spreeman, Dylan Zwally, Ben Fenandoe, Luke Gardner, and Ronan Hamon. Shout out to Paul Knecht, who was named OP swimmer of the meet.

OP vs. GL

Hungry for a win, the guys found themselves against a GL team who they lost to last year. The guys squeaked out a hard fought win, by a score of 90-80. After going down in the first relay, Charlie Kline, Conor Heffernan, and Luke Gardner got a 1-3-5 finish, which gave the team a solid lead. In the 2IM, Paul Knecht, Henry Crowther, and Brice Spreeman got a 2-3-4 finish adding to the lead, Will Foucher then won the 50 freestyle, while Jack Larkin placed 5th. The 100 Freestyle was a 1-3-6 for Oratory, with Will Foucher winning, Brice Spreeman coming 3rd, and Luis Cueva swimming a personal best of 58.61. The 500 freestyle was won by freshman Cathal Hislop, while Conor Heffernan placed second. Ben Fenandoe came in a clutch 5th place. After, Paul Knecht and Dylan Zwally went 2-4 the 100 Backstroke.
