The Freshmen Basketball Team Goes 1-1 in their Last Two Games

Benedict Gaffney, Staff Writer

The Freshman basketball team has been playing like a team in their last few games. The points are spread around evenly. The defense has been good. The bench has been hype. The boys are back.

Oratory: 40, Summit: 35

The Rams surged against Summit. All three teams won, and it was the first time this year when all three teams beat a school on the same day. The first half against the Hilltoppers did not go as planned as the Rams were losing 19-11. However, Hughes had a good halftime speech and the Rams, led by Jack Olohan, quickly took a lead. Ben Gaffney and Jack Olohan took the lead, with the JV and Varsity teams cheering on the Rams in the process.

A big factor in the success of the game was Ian Heffernan. He finished the game with the most rebounds, a couple of points, while concurrently being a star on defense.

Oratory: 45, Rutgers Prep: 50

Despite the victory against Summit, the Rams could not pull off a W against Rutgers Prep. The first half did not go as planned at all. Oratory had a lot of turnovers, took bad shots, and let them score. The big game-changer in the first half was when Oratory’s coach (Mr. Hughes) got a tech. The half ended with Rutgers winning 19-11.

In the second half, the Rams surged. Olohan and Gaffney really popped off in the second half. The defense was really good; however, Rutgers Prep’s point guard was doing a good job, hitting threes after threes. Gaffney and Olohan put it into their own hands, and with a minute left, got Oratory within three points. However, when OP forced a three at the end, Rutgers Prep got an easy layup and the Rams lost by 5.
