Art Club – What Goes Beyond “Just Art?”

Enzo Sarango, Staff Writer

The Art Club here at Oratory has been going strong this year with around 40 members. In an interview with Mrs. Preston, the club’s moderator and instructor, she said that the goal of OP’s Art Club is for students to create art based on their interests. She also hopes that this gives students a chance to cultivate their artistic interests by exploring a series of fun topics ranging from pottery to watercolors, to Gelli printing, Chinese art, and so much more. On top of that, it is open to all grades, all year long so you don’t have to worry about time commitments with sports–just stop by and express yourself through art. And if you do not know where to start, Mrs. Preston always comes across new art techniques/forms that students are more than welcome to try. Art Club meets weekly and CWP time is also open for anyone to stop by and continue their work or start their next masterpiece. Another important element is that your time at Art Club counts towards your hours if you are interested in applying to the National Art Honor Society. In fact, around half of the current Art Club members are also part of the National Art Honor Society. The National Art Honor Society is a national organization that motivates students to continue doing art while doing good in their communities. Members do charitable works such as making extra pottery in support of the Jamie foundation. As a member myself, I highly encourage you to stop by and work on a few art pieces!
