Rams Take Down Mount Olive at Home

Coming off a week of no games due to COVID, Oratory hosted Mount Olive at home on Saturday 1/9. It was a hot start for both teams, as Mount Olive and OP scored a frenzy of points in the first quarter. Oratory gained a slight advantage thanks to Greg Jones’ buzzer-beating floater to end the period. Both teams played solid defense in the second quarter. The Rams outscored the Mauraders 8-7 in the second frame, carrying a slim 26-24 point lead into halftime. But in the second half, OP took control. They outscored Mount Olive 36-23 in the final two quarters, coasting to a 62-47 win.

It was Greg Jones that led the way for OP. The junior tallied 20 points, including multiple clutch baskets late in the game to seal the win. Mike Pirone, another junior, added 15 of his own. Alex Werbaneth also contributed 8 points off the bench, including the lone 3 pointers for OP. Tommy Conniff chipped in 12 points, as well.

It was a convincing win for OP, as they host Rahway on Tuesday, followed by home games against Dayton, GL, and Cranford.
