John Collins’ Amazing Dunk

Charles Kline, Staff Writer

The NBA pre-season started recently, and, amazingly, we have already had some great plays. But one play stands out above all of them by a large margin. John Collins posterized Jarett Allen with one of the nastiest dunks I’ve ever seen. Hawks rookie Sharife Cooper saw an opening and drove straight towards the basket. John Collins saw this as an opportunity to slam it down for two points. He ran towards the hoop and was right behind Jarett Allen when Cooper threw it up. Collins jumped for it with Allen making a minimal effort to stop him. The next thing Allen knew, Collins was above him slamming it down for one of the nastiest dunks in NBA history. Just adding onto the already outstanding dunk, Collins was fouled, thus allowing him to get an attempt for one more point. The craziest part of this is that it is already a candidate for dunk of the year and the regular season hasn’t even started! Collins is known for throwing down crazy dunks, but never before have we seen one like this. The dunk was so good, even the opposing bench was in disbelief.

However, Collins is more than just an amazing dunker. He has proven to be a great shooter and a great scorer. Collins made 55.6% of the 2 point shots he made and 39.9% of the three-pointers he shot. Though these numbers seem low, they are statistically astounding. Last year, Collins averaged 17.4 points, proving him to be an elite scorer too. Though the Hawks lost to the Cavaliers, John Collins played an amazing game. His final numbers were 14 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 amazing dunk.
