If you live in the United States you are most likely in quarantine. Aside from Instagram challenges, work from school, and constantly eating, boredom is the most prevalent thing in your life. Whether you are procrastinating work or trying to kill your eternal boredom, binging shows on Netflix seems to be the best thing to do. Here are some binge-worthy shows and movies on Netflix that you most likely did not know of. 

 

Shows

  1. Paradise PD
    1. Summary: Paradise PD is a cartoon targeted towards an older audience. It tells the story of a police department of a small backwater town and the adventures they go on. The officers of this department do a poor job protecting the town, but there are virtually no criminals so all is good. This show is super funny, super crude, and perfect to stall your boredom.

  2. The Stranger
    1. Summary: The Stranger follows a man whose wife has disappeared. On his search for her, he is approached by a blackmailer. This blackmailer tells him disturbing information about his wife that leads him on a wild chase, uncovering secrets about his family and friends along the way.

  3. Bloodline
    1. Summary: This is a dramatic thriller that follows a seemingly perfect family who is a pillar in their Florida community. But as the show progresses, more and more of their dark past is unraveled, creating a web of mistrust and paranoia. Characters that are supposedly good people do horrible things and viewers watch as their lives become more and more complex.

  4. The Witcher
    1. Summary: This show takes place in a fantasy dystopia in which the main character, Geralt, is a monster hunter. Throughout the kingdom, Geralt is hated, feared, and respected. During the show, the viewers watch Geralt fight his way to earn respect and prove himself among his peers.

  5. Into the Badlands
    1. Summary: Into the Badlands combines high caliber martial arts and a fantasy feudal civilization as it follows two characters and their journey to a better life. The cinematics of this show are jaw-dropping and will leave you on the edge of your seat for every episode.

  6. F is for Family
    1. Summary: This raunchy animated comedy follows a short-tempered veteran living in the suburbs with his wife and three children. Given that the show is set in the 1970s, there are countless funny lines and rants that celebrate the nostalgia of the time (even if you were not alive then). This is a show to watch if you need a quick laugh.

  7. Better Call Saul
    1. Summary: Do not watch this show if you have not watched Breaking Bad. If you have watched Breaking Bad, this show is perfect for you. It follows Saul Goodman before his run-ins with Walter White. The viewer is able to see how Saul fought his way to success and his struggles to make it as a big-time lawyer.

  8. Black Summer
    1. Summary: This show takes place in an apocalyptic America as the plague sweeps through the country. It features a group of characters who are battling hordes of zombies as an attempt to stay safe. Watch this show and Z Nation right after one another for the best experience.

  9. Z Nation
    1. Summary: Similar to Black Summer, this show takes place in a post-apocalyptic America several years after the plague has swept the country. But this show features a man who is immune to the zombies and can even control their actions. During this show, a group of characters is attempting to move the immune man from New York to a lab in Los Angelos that can make a cure with his blood.

  10. The Last OG
    1. Summary: After spending 15 years in prison, Tracy Morgan (or Tray) is released back into a world that has completely transformed. This show follows Tray on a hilarious journey to reconnect with his old girlfriend, sons, and his hustle to get his life in motion again.

  11. Disenchantment
    1. Summary: Disenchantment is a cartoon that is amid toward an adult audience. In this show, the viewer watches the misadventures of a princess who loves to drink, an innocent elf, and a confused demon. This trio takes on ogres, imps, trolls, and other fantasy creatures on a journey that no one knows the purpose of. Another show that is easy to get a laugh from.

  12. Happy
    1. Summary: Based on a graphic novel, this show follows an alcoholic and corrupt ex-cop and a tiny, imaginary, unicorn on a journey to find a missing girl while avoiding countless mobsters, thieves, murders, ex-wives, and an evil Santa. You need to watch a few episodes for it to grow on you, but it is worth the watch.

  13. Safe
    1. Summary: The main character, Tom, is a widowed surgeon who is struggling to raise his two daughters after his wife’s death. Everything seems to be going fine with all the money, friends, and happiness the family needs. Unannounced to Tom, his eldest daughter uncovers a dark secret about his wife, neighbors, and friends causing her to be kidnapped. The viewer watches as Tom struggles with who to trust as he races to find his daughter.

  14. The Sinner
    1. Summary: This show follows an accredited detective who has to assess a gruesome crime of a woman killing a random man while being on the beach. As the detective searches for clues, he discovers a disturbing secret about the rich inhabitants of the town. In Season 2, the same detective returns home to asses the crime of two parents being murdered by their 11-year-old child. The viewer watches as the detective digs into the boys past, learning more about the cult he is from and the twisted secrets the town is hiding. Start with the season titled Cora for the best experience.

  15. All American
    1. Summary: This show follows Spencer James, a top prospect football player who lives in the rough area of Californa called Crenshaw. During his season, the coach of Beverly Hills High School offers James a spot on his team. James is reluctant to leave his home but his mom pushes him to accept. Once he does this, a slew of issues occur ranging from not fitting into the new high school, friends being killed by gangs in his town, and problem on the field. This is based on a true story and is a must-watch no matter whether you like football or not.

  16. Dexter
    1. Summary: This show follows a Miami Police Department blood splatter expert who doubles as a serial killer. As a killer, the main character, Dexter, has a strict code that only allows him to kill other serial killers. The viewer watches as Dexter balances his desire to kill with his family life along with his work life. I would suggest watching this show at the same time as another show because you will need a break from this show now and then. If blood makes you queasy, I would suggest you avoid this show.

  17. BoJack Horseman
    1. Summary: BoJack Horseman is a cartoon that is amid toward an older audience. This show features a humanoid, self-loathing horse who decides it is time for a comeback, 18 years after being a successful star in a 90s sitcom. During this comeback, BoJack struggles with very human issues like addiction, girlfriend issues, and his past coming back to haunt him. Watch this show for a few episodes before you decide whether you like it or not.

    1. Summary: This movie features Ryan Reynolds assembling a team of people who are the best at what they do. The one unifying factor is every member of the team wishes to escape their past. This is a funny, action-packed, crime-filled movie that is easy to watch.

  2. El Camino
    1. Summary: Similar to Better Call Saul, do not watch this unless you have watched Breaking Bad. The viewer follower Jesse Pinkman on his journey to get back on track after Walter has died. It is a must-watch for anyone who likes Breaking Bad.

  3. Driver
    1. Summary: A shorter movie that features Ryan Gosling as a Hollywood stuntman who doubles as a getaway driver for robbers and other criminals. Gosling’s character has an icy exterior and doesn’t talk often but when he does, he says something of substance. Life is good until his neighbor’s husband returns from jail and finds himself in trouble. Gosling, who has an affinity for the wife, offers to him. From there, everything spirals into chaos.

  4. Step Brothers
    1. Summary: A well-known movie that features Will Ferrell and Dale Doback doing their usual antics. Ferrell’s character is an adult who still lives with his mother and Doback’s character is an adult who still lives with his father. Everything is all good until their parents decide to get married, pushing the men together. This leads to countless funny antics and is a good way to laugh away time.

    1. Summary: A bank robber doesn’t let anything stop him from freeing his brother from the grips of prison. This leads him on a nightlong adventure that features New York’s dark and dangerous criminal underground.
