Greystone Invitational

Jack Mogen, Staff Writer

On Friday, October 11, our Cross Country team ran at Greystone Park in Morris Plains at the Greystone invitational. While a relatively small meet with around 250 runners in our JV race, the Greystone Park course is a fast one, great for personal and season bests. Between both our Varsity and JV runners that’s exactly what our boys did, run their hearts out. Not to mention that it was a beautiful day (for runners) with race temperatures in the 60’s and plenty of cloud coverage. Nearly half our runners ran a personal best or a season best with some running their best race by over a minute. One of our notorious packs of runners, including Max Terraciano, Cole Noss, Connor McDermott, and Gary Saitta, ran extraordinarily well compared to their previous meet times. For all but Cole, this was the first time they ran a sub 20 minute 5k in their lives. Another outstanding performance in the JV race was Augustus Russo who placed 10th for us in the race and 1st among Oratory runners. For Augustus, or as we call him Gus, this was a breakout race and a season best. We can’t wait to see how well he runs another month from now. JV placed 4th overall in the race.

In the Varsity race, all of our runners ran very well with our front runner Aidan Watkins running 18th overall after coming off an injury, speaking to the toughness of our boys. The majority of our runners both, veterans and rookies (Brandon Franks, one of two freshman who were in the race), ran personal bests, with Jack Sula in particular running the first sub 18 minute 5k of his life. Varsity placed 5th in the race overall.
