Nick Looney – Center

Kyle Roethlin, Staff Writer

Nick Looney has a presence on our OP campus. Despite countless bouts with “Looneyitus,” he is involved in multiple activities and carries around a big smile and a contagious laugh. He has many close friends, and yet there are still things to learn about this fascinating young lad. Recently, I had the chance to sit down with this OP lifer to ask him some questions.

What activities do you do at OP?

I swim, and I do campus ministry, the Omega, Quiz Bowl, History club, Model UN, Italian Club, Carlton Fellows, and I just generally improve the school with my presence.

What is your favorite activity outside of school?

Well, I play the bass guitar which I really enjoy. But I have a pretty wide range of interests.

Name one thing people probably don’t know about you.

People know a lot about me because I like to talk and I’m pretty open. But if I had to pick something… I’d say that I’ve been raised as a sailor, and I really enjoy sailing.

Any talents?

I would like to think making people smile is one of my talents, whether it be through just being a nice guy or through shenanigans. No clue if I’m actually good at it.

You’re a big meme guy. What’s your favorite meme of the past year?

I’ve been known to dabble in memes, yes. A favorite meme is hard to pick, especially because a lot of them leave a sour taste in your mouth once they “die,” so it’s hard to judge which one was really the best at the time. But I’m gonna have to go with my man VoiceOverPete. Something about a man in his late 50s or so trying to appeal to “gamers” and saying things he doesn’t understand, and even abandoning his old career for a career based on internet memes strikes a chord with me. Plus the guy is so lovable.

What’s your favorite subject and why?

I would have to say history, all though I have a couple of close runner ups. History keeps me engaged because, well, it’s basically a story. And I really like learning about people, and different cultures, and why people in the world act the way they do, and why things are the way they are.

Do you have any big plans for the future?

The big moves for right now are to get into college, graduate high school, and not die. If I can accomplish those over the next year, I’d say I’ve done pretty well. As for beyond, I’m still not really sure what I want to do, but I plan to be successful at it and enjoy it.

Undoubtedly, Nick Looney is a great kid with a bright future ahead of him. His charm continues to light the way for future generations of OP men.
