With the World Series starting on Tuesday, October 23rd, people around the world will be watching to see which big market team can come up victorious. If you haven’t heard, the 2018 World Series is being played between the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Boston Red Sox had the best record in the MLB winning 108 games and only losing 54. The Dodgers had a final record of 92-71, good for the third best record in the NL. These two teams have not met in the World Series in over 100 years, with their last Championship meeting occurring in 1916, in which the Red Sox won 4-1. In their histories, these franchises have met a mere 20 times, with the Red Sox owning the better head-to-head record of 12-8. Now, enough of this breakdown, let’s get to some predictions!

I had the chance to ask eight OP students their opinions regarding the 2018 World Series. These eight students comprised of two freshmen (Kyle Hart and Emmett Gaffney), three sophomores (Liam Henderson, Jack Greco, and Cole Weintraub), two juniors (Ben Landis and James Kim), and finally, one senior (Nick Demarinis). These eight were selected based on their knowledge for the game of baseball, which would make up the best data possible.

Now, I asked these students three questions: Who will win the World Series? How many games will be played? And, Who will be the World Series MVP? Here were their responses:

James: Dodgers in 7 with Cody Bellinger being the MVP
Liam: Red Sox in 5 with Mookie Betts being the MVP
Nick: Red Sox in 5 as well, but Brock Holt will be the MVP
Ben: Dodgers in 6 with Clayton Kershaw shutting down the Red Sox
Jack: Dodgers in 5 with Puig bringing home the MVP
Kyle: Red Sox in 6 with Mookie Betts winning MVP
Cole: Dodgers in 7 with Max Muncy bringing home the hardware for MVP
Emmett: Red Sox in 6 with Mookie again getting MVP

Personally, I believe that the Dodgers will win in 7 games. I think that Justin Turner will emerge as a playoff superstar and bring home the title to LA, getting their revenge from last year.
