Over the summer, seniors from Oratory weren’t just relaxing and taking in the sun: many of them were preparing for college and the workforce, or even just taking extra classes so that they would stay up to date on their educations. I chatted with a handful of members of the class of 2019 to get to know what they did over the summer.

First, of course, I went to Justin Oei. His summer was jam-packed with classes relating to his academic interests, most notably traveling to American University and taking a Summer course on International Relations. However, that’s not all everyone’s favorite Music Ministry member did: he also spent some time doing some theater work and performing in plays and concerts.
Two more seniors, Chris Ocker and Chris Uustal, both took some Summer courses as well. First, Ocker went to New Jersey’s own Steven’s Institute for Technology, where he took a course on engineering. Excitedly, he told me about Steven’s aquadynamics tank, and how his group constructed a boat with minimal drag underwater. Uustal traveled to Northwestern in Illinois, where he took an advanced statistics course.

John Spitznagel and Paul Topazio took a different path over the Summer: they both got jobs. Interestingly, Spitz got a job at an animal shelter, working with cats. He told me that his favorite cat was named Marbles, a black cat with white markings. Paul got a more serious job, working at a Law Firm, filing papers and making sure that his cases were in order.
Overall, the Class of 2019 was very productive over the summer, with everyone either advancing their education or getting valuable work experience.
