OP Spring Track Throwing Preview

The end of Winter Track and the beginning of Spring Track always seem to blend together, especially this year. Most of the throwers from Winter Track, along with some new faces among them, have transitioned smoothly into the next season, and a new door opened for those who have not done Spring Track before. Because Spring Track is an outdoor sport, this allows for more implements to be thrown, such as javelin and discus, along with the usual shot put. With the new events, the throwers try all the new implements and get to figure out which events will work best for them.

One of, if not the best, throwers on the team is Anthony Coraggio, the sophomore throwing team captain who proved himself as a very strong thrower last spring. With his main events being discus and javelin, Anthony has consistently thrown 100+ feet and 140+ feet in each event. He is also a good thrower in shot put, but decided to devote his time to discus and javelin. Graham Hamilton, one of the best shot put throwers on the team, has shown great improvement after returning from a camp last summer, and has been trying his hand at the other events, showing himself to be adept at discus and javelin as well.

There are about 16 throwers on the team this year, with many of those being new faces to the team, including Gaetano Cusmano, John Celona, and Charlie Anderson, who got their starts during the winter, but are hoping to bring what they learned to improve even more in shot put, along with trying their hand at the other events.

After talking to Coach Vaughn, it seems that it will be a promising season for the throwers, due to a larger throwing team than those in years past, along with some new implements and new faces.
