Singles Awareness Day

Singles Awareness Day

Chris Ocker, Staff Writer

For some, Valentine’s Day is no celebration about couples and their love. Instead, it stands a cruel reminder of the unlucky souls who have no one to share their love with. As such, the day after Valentine’s Day has now been named Singles Awareness Day.

Since 2014, the number of Americans over 16-years-old who view themselves as single has skyrocketed to over 50%. Not just that, but only 46% of people in relationships say that they actually enjoy Valentine’s Day. One teacher even complained that Valentine’s Day is “a corporate fabrication!”

Fortunately, if you are one of those millions of Americans that are single, Oratory students have some of the best advice to help to survive through Singles Awareness Day. Due to President’s Day weekend, many have decided to stay home, play video games and relax (while others have had to suffer through college visits). Kevin Sofronas decided retitled the day Discount Chocolate Day, claiming that Valentine’s Day is Discount Chocolate Eve. If you still struggle through this day, just remember to not be sad; you are not alone.
