Army v Navy 2017

Army v Navy 2017

Our country possesses freedom greater than most others around the world. A large part is due to the men and women who fight endlessly as a part of the United States military. The military branches include both the Army and Navy, containing some of the finest young men and women throughout our nation. Besides protecting our country, these courageous people participate in another unique tradition. They play an annual football game, one that is filled with rivalry, tradition, and talent. Their rivalry can be argued as one of the longest in college football and has a surreal feel to those who attend. This hard fought game has taken place since 1890 with a few skips in between. However, these years skipped were due to horrific events such as World War l when the soldiers were needed for combat. Some Army or Navy football players have turned out to be a success in the NFL like the Hall of Famer Roger Staubach or the recent draftee Keenan Reynolds. Both sides know the true meaning of being a patriot and show their intense training benefits on the football field. The most recent game between these longtime rivals occurred last weekend and resulted in an Army win by the score of 14-13. Snow was falling and the temperature was around freezing, but that did not stop the two sides from competing fiercely against one another. Many current students at Army and Navy filled the stands and the sight at the stadium was unforgettable. This game shows that even those who give us all our privileges by sacrificing their lives can still partake in games they love. We must remember that no matter what the final score turns out to be, these men are and will always be brothers. They are all united by one cause, and that one cause is to keep all of us out of harm’s way.
