Indoor Gym Classes

Indoor+Gym+Classes

Joe Meade, Staff Writer

Last week an unnoticed tradition arose again. As the first quarter came to an end at Oratory Prep, so too did the time-honored tradition of outdoor gym. Those who have first semester gym know exactly what this means. This means that gym class will move inside for the good portion of the rest of the semester. This is mostly because Mother Nature turns the weather cold, in fact, too cold to go outside to exercise. As the students can no longer go outside, the games of football, ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf, and speedball come to an end. While some are sad to see this happen, others are delighted by it. When walking around my gym class, many are delighted because they favor the controlled temperatures of the gyms and the games that ensue inside. Oratory’s most famous gym games include handball, pickle ball, and floor hockey. While basketball and ultimate football can be played, they do not have the same feel as the unique competitions of handball, pickle ball, and floor hockey. For any freshmen asking what the heck pickle ball is, it is a game similar to tennis except with plastic balls and rackets. While this seems silly, the games are very intense, and it is a skill based game. For any fellow Rams who may be discouraged by gym moving inside, just keep in mind that the temperature is controlled and that you should take advantage of the last quarter of gym you have left. No matter what your opinion on indoor gym is, take advantage of the time and enjoy the games you may never play after high school!
