OP Soccer Wraps Up Another Successful Season

William Mainente, Staff Writer

On November 3, 2016, Oratory Prep varsity soccer fell to top-seeded Bergen Catholic in the second round of the Non-Public A State Tournament.  Oratory put up a strong performance by scoring two goals and by holding the lead for the majority of the first half.  Both goals were scored by AJ Kopacz and goalie Michael Koomar recorded 10 saves.  Unfortunately, this loss signified the end of a successful 2016 season.  The team finished 9-9-1 and second in their conference.  Some highlights from the season include defeating GL High School at home when they were ranked fourth in the county and by gaining Oratory’s first ever Non-Public A win against Depaul Catholic.  The team will graduate seven seniors this year whose talent will surely be missed.  However, the team will return another twelve players who will hopefully be able to lead Oratory through another successful season in 2017.
